Catching Fire Movie Review

The action packed film Catching Fire did not disappoint die-hard Hunger Game fans, relating to the book almost exactly. As many of those fans know, the much anticipated movie directed by Francis Lawrence premiered in theaters on November 22 starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark. Cheerleading is a sport

I was sitting at the lunch table the other day and as we were talking about sports the discussion of cheerleading not being a sport came into play. My friends and many other people have the assumption that cheerleading is not a sport but for someone who doesn't cheer will never know how much work you put in. In cheer, you work harder than most other sports, but maybe in different ways. I have been a competitive cheerleader as well as a school cheerleader and I can tell you that being a cheerleader is a lot of work. READ STORY »

Terms and phrases like "rBST free" and "no growth hormones added" are all the rage these days. The majority of our population would rather eat “cage free” eggs and "grass fed" beef than industrialized feed-lot cattle and eggs from chickens that never see the sun.
People are more willing than ever to support their local farmers and boost the local economy, but what people are really looking for is something that is raised naturally and treated humanely. READ STORY »
Midnight Memories by One Direction Album Review

For years, millions of Americans have woken up bright and early to get a head start on some seriously cutthroat Christmas shopping before the remainder of their Thanksgiving leftovers are gone. This day is known as Black Friday. But in recent years, Black Friday has invaded Thanksgiving, a family-oriented American holiday that has been celebrated for centuries. Still fresh in the minds of everyone at SHS is the recent victory in Evening Magazine’s most spirited school poll. For the fourth year! How amazing is it that we kept up our enthusiasm for four years running?
What if we hadn’t kept it up?
Walking around campus, one is hard pressed to find a show of school spirit on a regular day. Even on days that do matter to us, as Panthers, there is little more than a wrapping of red cloth to differentiate it from your average Tuesday. Christmas time, the time of year people looks forward to. When they receive what seems to be an endless amount of unnecessary gifts and the latest technology. A time to allow one’s self to eat all of the cookies presented to them gaining a thick layer of cellulite in order to keep warm during the cold winter season. Prop 8 Unconstitutional

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court started their examination of Proposition 8. Proposition 8 was a California law passed in 2008 that defined marriage as between one man and one women. The law was challenged in 2011 and has since been appealed all the way up to the Supreme Court. Despite the claims of those who support Proposition 8, one might argue that the freedom to marry is supported by the majority and should be considered a Constitutional right. READ STORY »
A Doll's House: Review

Snohomish High School’s AP Literature and AP Language classes went to see A Doll’s House, a play by Henrik Ibsen, on January 10, 2013.
Having just finished reading the play, the AP Literature students saw the story come to life on the set. The AP Language students watched the play knowing that they might be reading the book next year. Performed by the Seattle Shakespeare Company, the play A Doll’s House displayed impressive acting and a beautiful set, adding to the educational experience. READ STORY »
High School Schedules

Most high school students would agree that school is exhausting. High school is a time when students are stuck right in the middle of junior high and college, two very different environments. When so many teenagers are getting closer to their future, which usually includes some form of higher education, they need a transition that resembles college life more than high schools currently do.
